Welcome to the online historical archives of Dakota State University (DSU), located in Madison, South Dakota. The DSU Archives collects, organizes, and preserves materials that document the history of the University. The text and images found on this website are intended to convey that history from the University's beginning in 1881 as a "Normal School" for the preparation of teachers.
Use the navigation menu to the right to begin exploring. The "DSU Timeline," is a chronology of campus history that includes numerous photos. “Key Facts” provides various lists such as DSU Presidents, University name changes, and homecoming queens and kings, along with links to in-depth information.
Additional images and documents are available in the "Digital Library of South Dakota" (DLSD), which can also be found through the menu to the right. DLSD is a searchable online resource containing additional images and documents that have been digitized by DSU Archives, including many issues of campus newspapers, yearbooks, and commencement programs that provide a rich trove of information about people, events, and activities.
We invite you to explore both the DSU Archives website and the Digital Library of South Dakota.
The Archives are physically located in the Karl E. Mundt Library & Learning Commons at the corner of Egan Avenue and 8th Street on the Dakota State University campus.
